My learner’s license eventually expired

Posted on August 21, 2019August 26, 2019 by Kervin Mathumbu

Due to want of financial convenience, I sadly could not get ready for the driving test in time and my learner’s eventually expired (on the 13th of June). The learner’s license was done back in 2017 – a few months after the purchase of the Corolla accounted for here. Due to dread of bribe-thirsty testing officials, I desired to try and attain a very high level of driving fluency before I should book for the test. If by any means I could give them no reason to even consider accusing my driving of aught (in hope for a bribe). And that if they should still dare accuse it though I had satisfied all requirements, that I would then have to take any requested sum as essentially that which is robbed out at gun-point than bribe intended for to pervert judgement.

Desiring therefore that if it were possible, that I would be tested on the same car I drove on regular basis – to hopefully take advantage of the second nature so-called over controls’ responses and their locations. But the manual steering wheel on the Corolla (which I had for so long driven and would still drive at sundry times despite that it was them handed over to Gogo) was a threat on it’s own. Especially for the side-parking part of the test – and converting it to power had several negative bearings. While want of budget on the other hand seemingly, could not let the Shuma/Sephia be the car for the test either – not until we were startled by its ‘pending sales’ status.

About a week prior to the expiring date, we learned of a certain traffic official who had coincidentally become Gogo’s tenant (with some rooms then vacant). This, so it later turned out, got Gogo thinking that she could take advantage of to finally help me through the said official to avail the driving license that had for so long tarried. And labored hard to speak us into the same (including consent to use her car).

However, while I reckoned there was no issue being tested by a positively biased official (if well prepared), I knew I was at the time not at all prepared to take the test and that the likelihood of failing to sufficiently comply was high. And that since the official was already spoken into licensing me whichever the test outcome, that I would certainly be running the risk of being unjustly licensed – to the actual perverting of judgement.

We therefore had to advise Gogo of the same – contending that we reckon we should rather have the learner’s license expiring than to thus proceed. The hope being to take the theory test again soon after the expiry dates. It has been over two months and I have yet to take the said theory test – particularly because the target car (the KIA) remains off the road. Dear God remember the long suffering of them that are His.
