We, upon moving in, took it for granted that any disagreeable ador had to be owing to possible neglect from the previous occupant(s). Hence prio to settling, we labored to thourougly wash & bleach so far as we could. With special emphasis to the floor and lavetory utilities. Over the days that followed, there seemed to be a scent which’s source seemed to have remained undisturbed by the immerse cleaning attempted. The same was shortly after traced to the lavetory area. A little internet search brought up the “sewer gas” concept to our attention. The same articles suggested some baking powder, vineger and bleach. Which ingredients were accordingly procured and tried – particulary on the basin which was at the time a bigger suspect. Unfortunately, after this the ador seemed to persist still.
On the next inspection attempt, an opening was identified on the wall right around the larger dranage pipe runing from the lavertory out. Because this is fitted with with a vertical gas pipe on the outsite. I suspected that if a leak existed on the mount point, then that wall opening could be inletting the leaked gas. When effort was make to seal up this opening with a crack filler paste, the odor seemed to die out. We noted none of it when returning from buying food like we did at one point. However a fait amount still seemed to persist. Leading to yet another internet search attempt. Which research drew my attention to the shower drainage which had all along been amongst least suspects. I went to check and found that the gas certainly billowed out of it still.
Because a low pressured bohole water supply is used in the premises, the showers receive no usable pressured water. This has lead to their drainage drying far below the accepted level. And hence began to leak trapped gas into the house. Hydrating the shower dranage seemed to instantly look out the gas leak.
We all the while experienced severe health issues with the exception of wife. I personally felt greatly irritable as well as a physical stress on my head. Great loss of appetite which was also noted from the boys. Their body temperature also rose significantly at sundry times. The older son’s condition got severe today when we went out for food and drinking water. So much that he thew up after a pint of juice.
Yes acceptable holiness will come at a price at times. We more than likely would have seen non of these had we had compromised and submitted to the opposing yoke from gogo. Dear God remember and show mercy!
