In spite her recently accounted cases of cold and lukewarmness, wife says to have been introduced to the concept of salvation at a somewhat young age. How genuine her repentance at the time, only heaven can tell best – as she does not tell of much spiritual great exploits until about 10 years ago. She does however tell of a prayer petition she seem to have held up to the throne from the early days of her Christian pilgrimage. She notes that her father was sadly an alcoholic who would be physically violent to wife and a dread to children when drunk. Hence after learning of God’s professed ultimate power (Omnipotence), she further notes to have then held up a prayer to him for a husband who is not at all like her father.
At one point in her quest, she mentions to have even fallen victim to one of those heretic “sow a seed” ministers by giving up needed money to enhance the chances of getting her “good” husband prayer heard on high.
After more than 5 years of living with her and exchanging spiritual thoughts with her at sundry times, I am convinced that she is indeed a thorough convert and a Christian disciple. And that while spiritual growth lasts until man leaves the earth, that her prayer must have been ernest and in sound faith. Hence falling victim to the said minister must have been owing to spiritual infancy (which can at times be sadly prolonged by personal indifference or unskilled shepherds).
Now me who by the providence of God became her husband proves to have been an answer to her lengthy plea. I was already a subject grace (an earnest Christian) when we spoke marriage. I had already acquired a fair deal of what was expected from a Christian who sought not only to say Lord, Lord but also meant to make it to heaven. I already felt and ever feels that it is not in me to lay my hand on her a for any cause – for I learned nothing of that sort from the Lord. And alcohol was already understood to be amongst the hideous Christian abormination. Hence a manifest indication of answer to ernest prayer.
